Milestones
- Angeles Crest Engineering Inc (ACEI) was founded in 1997 by Dr. Mack Dowdy, Dr. Nicholas Moore, and Dr. Saravan Sutharshana. The design office was opened in Pasadena, CA in September 1997.
- The Azusa laboratory for hardware development, testing, and integration was established in September 1999.
- The twelve-foot centrifuge at the Azusa facility was built in record time and the first 3.5g fluid expulsion test was performed in January 2000.
- The advanced materials laboratory at Azusa for propellant compatibility testing was operational in February 2000. ACEI has developed a comprehensive database on concetrated hydrogen peroxide compatibility for metals and non-metallic materials.
- A communications satellite with a PMD that was designed and developed by ACEI was launched in December 1999.
- A commercial launch vehicle oxidizer and ethanol tank and PMD performance and structural designs were completed in July 1998.
- Two communications satellite PMDs that were designed and developed by ACEI have successfully completed their qualification test programs. One was launched in October 2000 and other will be launched in 2001.
- A NASA experimental vehicle coolant tank with an elastomeric bladder was designed and tested at ACEI. The tank completed its qualification in November 1999. It is scheduled for the first flight in late 2001.
- A geostationary satellite tank and PMD structural design and analysis was performed by ACEI. The tank has been successfully qualified in June 2000.
- The reaction control system bladder tank design and development for a commercial launch vehicle was completed in February 2000. The twelve-foot centrifuge was used to perform numerous full-scale 3.5g fluid expulsion tests for this tank.
- A NASA experimental space flight vehicle reaction control system tank is being developed and designed by ACEI. This is an elastomeric bladder tank for use with 90% hydrogen peroxide.
